In the far distance behind us, an explosion of light sprayed into the sky and I knew that my mother and Mormo were still fighting. But I wasn’t afraid. My mother was the strongest witch in the world. “Hold my hand,” I murmured to Brennan. He stopped moving and gazed into my eyes.

“Of course,” he answered. “Forever.”

“Forever,” I confirmed. And our surroundings faded away as we slipped from the present and into the past. Forever was a long time. But I planned to spend every moment of it with Brennan. I opened my eyes.
