He barely nodded, and then he was gone, a blur of movement. I ran to the door, and a moment later the black Lincoln was leaving the curb and Smokey was pumping his fist in the air in triumph. His gaze hit mine.

I shrank away into the darkness and smiled like a lunatic. It was the little things.

An hour later, a huge feast was delivered to my house, including two bottles of extremely expensive whiskey. Darius had come through. I didn’t have to kill him.

With a small smile, I sat to eat, thinking on that false identity Darius had created for me that would allow me to work in the Brink. I could take a stable job at the MLE office without fear of people knowing my true identity. Finally, I could show up Garret once and for all.
